Cover Stories, Commissions & Campaigns

Updated: Aug 21

Time has certainly flown, with August almost behind us and Spring just around the corner.

There is so much to catch up on with plenty more to come. The first half of 2024 has seen me embracing opportunities, stepping out of comfort zones and expanding horizons. Now looking ahead in anticipation to what will unfold.

Photo Review Magazine

I'm honoured and fortunate to feature in the cover story for Photo Review Magazine's 100th issue. Contacted in February requesting an interview for an article running over 6-10 pages, I was ridiculously nervous and completely out of my comfort zone, but spoke about my art practice, influences and upbringing. Just prior to the mag going to print I was thrilled to learn my image of Australian gum flowers would adorn the cover. A definite highlight of 2024! Written by freelance journalist Steve Packer, the following is a small excerpt - " The natural world has a public relations problem. With nature being almost everywhere – even in big cities – it’s easily taken for granted. Which is where Nadia Culph’s art photography of mainly Australian flora comes into play. Conceptually simple and done superbly well, it has a startling immediacy that reawakens awareness of her subjects’ uniqueness, diversity and beauty. Whether you see her photos on social media, on online print marketing sites or hanging in homes and other places, they have a wow factor that exceeds what might be expected from seemingly straightforward images of flowers, foliage, seedpods and the like.

With its low-key natural lighting and trademark black backgrounds, her work is distinctly contemporary while echoing outstanding botanical painters dating back to Sydney Parkinson (who sailed on the Endeavour with Captain Cook) and Ferdinand Bauer (who came to Australia with Matthew Flinders’ expedition). Culph herself cites as influences the botanical still lifes of American photographers Robert Mapplethorpe, Irving Penn and Imogen Cunningham. "

Be sure to grab yourself a copy.

Artists To Watch in 2024 & Home Design Magazine

Thank you to Art Lovers Australia for naming yours truly amongst some of Australia's finest as an 'Artist to Watch in 2024'.

From my first listing back in 2018, my work has been chosen for curations, appeared on tv's House Rules High Stakes, been selected for The Block, exhibited at their Collingwood gallery and most recently seen in the Annual Collector's edition of Home Design Magazine. White Waratah featured in the article 'Luxe for Less'.

Biophilic - Where Nature & the Body Meet

The opening for Art Lovers Australia's Biophilic exhibition was held in their Melbourne gallery on February 9th with an outstanding collection of artworks from artists around the country.

'Biophilic: Where Nature and the Body Meet

is a curated selection of hand-made and

natural representations of nature as a

celebration of our connection &

interaction with the environment.

As humans, we have a tendency to

adapt and respond to environmental

forces. Over hundreds of thousands of years, we have evolved the way we think, feel and act as a reaction to our cultivation and connection to nature.' Thank you to those who made it to the opening and to those who visited over the 5 weeks, I hope it was enjoyed.

NaNY Gallery Summer Exhibition

January saw the NaNY Gallery in Warrandyte host their Summer Group exhibition featuring a number of artists showcasing various mediums from painting to photography. A great opening night in a beautiful part of Melbourne.

Hampton Commission

A commission through Pascoe Design, the client chose ten pieces to hang throughout her Hampton home. From Australian florals to colourful wildflowers and beautiful foliage, the brief was completed in time for a house full of visitors over the Summer period. Framed without mats and in black timber, striking against natural toned walls.

Temple St. Clair

Alongside art prints, my images are licensed to use in all sorts of projects. I was approached earlier in the year by American jewellers, Temple St. Clair, to use Hakea Laurina as cover art for a look book and composite image to go alongside their beautiful jewels.

ColourSpace

A great organisation connecting artworks with businesses, ColourSpace Gallery provides artists the opportunity to display their work creating a positive environment in the workplace.

Over the year, three of my pieces have made their way to various locations such as Blackmore Capital, Cowork Me and Melbourne Ent group.

AUSWIP

Australian Women in Photography (AUSWIP) have created an organisation with ' a mission to develop, promote, and support female and non-binary creatives in the photographic industry. Noticing a gap in the Australian market for a female-focused photographic organisation AUSWIP began connecting Australian creators and sharing work via social media.' Featuring a directory of professional photographers Australia-wide, be sure to view the incredible talent from the wider photographic community.

Forge Studio & La Grolla

To coincide with my new collection for Melbourne art wholesalers - La Grolla, I was invited to be part of a photo shoot with Forge Studio as part of their marketing campaign. More at home behind the camera than in front, nerves were dealt with and the results were great! Must remember to work on my Blue Steel pose...

La Grolla - New Collections & Installations

My partnership with unsurpassed Melbourne art wholesalers and framers - La Grolla continues with new collections, art packages and signed pieces. Expert custom framing and specialising in curating artwork for commercial interior design, La Grolla have made it possible for my work to be shown in a number of venues including this year's Decor & Design show for their stand, with a selection of signed botanical framed prints.

Supplying custom framed artwork to trade clients, La Grolla completed an installation for Hallam Aged Care Home. Modern with innovative facilities, it recently underwent an upgrade including over 30 framed prints from The Random Image.

La Grolla have showrooms around Australia and partnerships with M+Co and Weave with exclusive furniture and art packages.

Rosenstiels | Prints & Fine Art

With a history spanning 5 generations over 140 years, London based art publishers Rosenstiels supply art prints and posters to trade customers globally. My first collection with Rosenstiels and their retail site, Prints & Fine Art was recently launched with a selection of 30 artworks with each set of images telling a story.

Incognito Art Show

Now in it's 4th year, Incognito Art Show has outdone itself with over 16,000 artworks donated with all proceeds going towards funding programs at Studio A and Little Orange, both arts companies that provide professional development for artists with disabilities. Artists are asked to donate A5 artworks whilst remaining anonymous with each piece priced at $100 and their identity only being revealed once purchased. I'm happy to announce all three of my prints sold! Online sales are still open, so there's still time to grab a masterpiece for a worthy cause.

Oliive Studio

For a recent interior design project through Oliive Interior Design Studio, the client purchased custom prints of pink Dahlias to complete a dining room to compliment the custom pieces throughout. Soft pastel pinks contrasted with black created the finishing touches in a beautifully designed room.

Stockists & Online Galleries

The Random Image art prints can be found in a number of online galleries and stockists including a few new names to add to the ever-growing list. Alongside fine art prints, I've recently branched out into stock sites enabling customers the world-over to download images for any number of purposes and projects. Offering my photos for various applications and at different price points provides affordability for buyers from all corners of the market and also helps get my work out to more places making it easier to be found. Win win!

With a limited selection of prints available online at Australian art galleries - Art Lovers Australia, Bluethumb and ColourSpace, international sites include The Artling, Artfinder and Etsy. Trade clients can purchase through La Grolla, M+Co Living, Adelaide Agencies, and Quin & Co. For international trade clients, an exclusive selection of work can be found through Rosenstiels. And of course, therandomimage.com is where you'll find the largest collection with free shipping within Australia and also posting globally.

On the Horizon

Heading into the final stretch of 2024, projects are in the works to supply art for a Sydney golf course, more prints in another hotel, an Art Prize exhibition is approaching with Melbourne & Victorian Artists, 2025 calendars are in their initial design stage and back to basics with a focus on digital applications and stationery.

New Art

Spring is in the air (yay!) with the local environment beginning to bloom and florists stocking all sorts of incredible beauties. Magnolias have been my pick of the bunch, so please enjoy the most recent offerings and don't forget to check in weekly as new work is uploaded often. If you're after a particular something for a custom project, don't forget to get in touch, but remember I can only work with availability and what's in season at the time of request.

A Final Note

Remember to share and support your local artists where you can. With social media limiting visibility of your fave artists and creators, subscribing to their sites gives you unlimited access to new work. You can find all the links here.

N :)
